KRABĒO is simply unique!

At KRABĒO, we know that the sun, water and the beach are a source of well-being and to fully enjoy them one thing is essential: sun protection.

We love to enjoy the sun. We must admit that it brings a lot of positive to our lives! However, we forget all the risks associated with UV rays.

It cannot be said enough: the sun's ultraviolet rays cause premature aging, the appearance of spots and even skin cancer, which represents a third of the most common cancers in the world.

For us, everything starts with skin protection, it is at the center of all our actions and creations. It is our guiding principle.

The laboratory-tested fabrics are UPF50+ certified and block 99% of UVA and UVB rays, without any toxic products for the skin or the planet.

They have been carefully chosen to meet these two criteria: protect your skin and preserve the oceans.

Here you will find all the information about sun protection.

We provide tips for enjoying the sun safely and we also offer ways to raise awareness to combat skin cancer throughout Quebec and Canada.

From our founder

The story of our founder, Marie-Eve.

In November 2021, I was told, for the second time, that I had cancer. You never get used to this kind of news. Another bomb had just exploded in my life and that of my husband. This was followed by a series of tests at the hospital, from the end of November to the 2021 holiday season, trying to understand a possible recurrence... years later...

Over 16 years ago, I had a mole on my back that itched like a mosquito bite and I found it strange. It was the era of tanning salons that we went to several times a week to try to make my "milk-painted" complexion a little tanned and it took me sessions to look "healthy"! I had a membership to the local tanning salon until the time when, before moving in, I mentioned my mole to the owner who clearly advised me to go see a doctor, which I did a few weeks later.

I was 24 when it first happened. Honestly, since then, after all these years, I felt above it, me, cancer, until a lymph node surfaced in September 2021. It was when I noticed a small lump of nothing at all in the right groin that several doctors thought was harmless, even inflammatory that made me react. I felt that it was not benign.

I had to persist with the health system to go further and do more tests to find out what was wrong. When there is a feeling that something is wrong, you have to follow through with your questions. In my case, it was indeed wrong. They discovered after an ultrasound that it was a melanoma. It was quite a shock. Back to square one.

I hesitated to tell my story and even to tell my own children when all this happened, but I understood the importance of sharing life experiences, good or bad, to possibly help others in the future.

My story may be yours too. It made me realize the great lack of resources and knowledge about this disease and how to properly protect myself from the sun. It is thanks to what I went through that I decided to help the people around me and the population by developing a line of UV protective beachwear certified and recognized by the highest global standards of sun protection, that is to cover 98% of UVA and UVB rays. KRABĒO was born from this desire and is made entirely in Quebec with love.

So when I see my clothes worn by children and people everywhere, my heart lightens as I know that I have been able to help reduce this preventable cancer that is increasing every year.

By creating KRABĒO, I have peace of mind. For me, my family and for you. Do not hesitate to write to us!

Doc.UV for all you need to know

More than 3 million non-melanoma skin cancers and 150,000 melanoma skin cancers are diagnosed each year. One in three cancers diagnosed is skin cancer. At current rates, 1 in 73 Canadian women will develop melanoma in their lifetime, while 1 in 59 Canadians will develop the disease ( most recent statistic, 2018 ).

The vast majority of melanomas are caused by the sun. In fact, a British study found that about 86% of melanomas can be attributed to exposure to the sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays.

This documentary was directed and produced by Marie-Eve Richard, founder of KRABĒO and skin cancer (melanoma) survivor, in collaboration with Alexandra Pineault, videographer and founder of AlexaFilms. Presented in partnership with the Coalition Priorité Cancer .

Through a quest to understand our tanning habits and learn more about sun protection, Marie-Eve Richard makes us realize the importance of protecting our skin.

Committed to protecting the planet.

Every year, more than 14,000 tons of sunscreens pollute our oceans, a situation that is increasingly worrying for marine scientists. Aware of this environmental issue, we at Krabeo have created sun protection swimsuits that do not contain any harmful chemicals. In addition, our clothing is made from recycled fishing nets, thus contributing to the reduction of plastic waste in the oceans. With Krabeo, you can enjoy the sun safely while actively participating in the preservation of our planet.

We use compostable packaging to minimize our environmental impact.
