My name is Veronique, I am 46 years old. I have had three skin cancers.
Cancer on my forehead, almost scalp, in my case it was a scab the size of a dollar coin. It itched, changed color and would not heal. I never thought it was cancer, I thought it was eczema.

My son had an appointment with the dermatologist and I decided to go with him. When I took off my hat the dermatologist saw my forehead and said, "Okay, I'll do a biopsy right away." That morning I didn't know I was meeting the head of Mohs surgery.

When I got the quick diagnosis, I was told that I would need plastic surgery reconstruction the day after surgery. Huh?
Three months of follow-up visits for plastic surgery to recover and six months of having a numb head, migraines and hoping that the hair would grow back

It all started with a small scab on my nose and I was referred to a dermatologist. She did a biopsy knowing it was probably cancer...I remember leaving my appointment feeling sad and scared.

After 2 months of waiting, I was confirmed that it was indeed skin cancer.

Months go by and I am told that I will have Mohs surgery (a technique to remove cancer). I will then have to have reconstruction. The best-case scenario is a skin graft. The worst-case scenario is a forehead flap. I am in shock. On November 8, 2021, I have my Mohs surgery, it is painful at times but everything goes well. Good news, there is no more cancer!

I'm taking it one day at a time. I'm trying to hold on to the positive and the fact that it's temporary.
