KRABĒO is simply unique!

At KRABĒO, we know that the sun, water and the beach are a source of well-being and to fully enjoy them one thing is essential: sun protection.

We love to enjoy the sun. We must admit that it brings a lot of positive to our lives! However, we forget all the risks associated with UV rays.

It cannot be said enough: the sun's ultraviolet rays cause premature aging, the appearance of spots and even skin cancer, which represents a third of the most common cancers in the world.

For us, everything starts with skin protection, it is at the center of all our actions and creations. It is our guiding principle.

The laboratory-tested fabrics are UPF50+ certified and block 99% of UVA and UVB rays, without any toxic products for the skin or the planet.

They have been carefully chosen to meet these two criteria: protect your skin and preserve the oceans.

Here you will find all the information about sun protection.

We provide tips for enjoying the sun safely and we also offer ways to raise awareness to combat skin cancer throughout Quebec and Canada.

The story behind the crab.

In November 2021, I was told, for the second time, that I had skin cancer, melanoma. Another bomb had just exploded in my life and that of my family. What followed was a series of tests at the hospital and several months of trying to understand this recurrence... years later.

At the age of 24, I had a mole on my back that itched like a mosquito bite and I found it strange. It was the time of tanning salons that I frequented several times a week to try to make my “pale” complexion a little tan. It took several sessions to look “ healthy ”. Until now.

After several years, at the age of 39, a lymph node surfaced. It was when I noticed a small, insignificant lump in my right groin that several doctors thought was harmless, or even inflammatory, which made me react and which turned out to be cancerous.

This personal experience made me realize the great lack of resources and knowledge about this disease, which is still increasing throughout the province and in several countries around the world, and the ways to adequately protect yourself from the sun. It is thanks to this that I decided to help people by developing a line of UV protective outdoor clothing certified and recognized by the highest global standards of sun protection, to ensure that I am truly well protected at all times.

So when I see my clothes worn on the beach by children and people everywhere, my heart lightens knowing that I have been able to contribute to reducing this preventable cancer.

By creating KRABĒO, I have peace of mind. For me, my family and for you.

Doc.UV for all you need to know

More than 3 million non-melanoma skin cancers and 150,000 melanoma skin cancers are diagnosed each year. One in three cancers diagnosed is skin cancer. At current rates, 1 in 73 Canadian women will develop melanoma in their lifetime, while 1 in 59 Canadians will develop the disease ( most recent statistic, 2018 ).

The vast majority of melanomas are caused by the sun. In fact, a British study found that about 86% of melanomas can be attributed to exposure to the sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays.

This documentary was directed and produced by Marie-Eve Richard, founder of KRABĒO and skin cancer (melanoma) survivor, in collaboration with Alexandra Pineault, videographer and founder of AlexaFilms. Presented in partnership with the Coalition Priorité Cancer .

Through a quest to understand our tanning habits and learn more about sun protection, Marie-Eve Richard makes us realize the importance of protecting our skin.
